FT Consulting was birthed in the home of founder and entrepreneur Tan Thuan Seng in 1991. A true pioneer, Thuan Seng saw the potential for franchising as a growth industry in Asia, and started one of the first consulting firms specialising in assisting companies that wanted to expand via this proven method. He also co-founded Singapore's first and only national franchise body in 1993, the Singapore International Franchise Association, now renamed the Franchising and Licensing Association (FLA).
Over the years, the company grew from strength to strength, expanding to its size today of about 20 consultants. Under the helm of John Ong, the present Managing Director and Principal Consultant, FT developed a branding arm to complement existing franchising and licensing services. We are able to offer our clients a full suite of creative services from strategic brand consulting to graphic design.
What continues to set FT Consulting apart is our ability to funnel strategic thinking towards practical and relevant applications. We speak from experience, and act in pragmatism. Between 2001 and March 2011, John spearheaded the franchising division of Ya Kun, a Singapore F&B business concept that has successfully expanded into six Asian countries. Our expertise is tested and proven. Former consultants have gone on from FT to start up their own businesses with success. They include the founder of the Italian restaurant chain Pastamania, and the co-founder of Udders ice cream (winner of the Emerging Enterprise 2010 competition).
FT is highly involved in FLA, with John serving as an Executive Committee member. After 10 years, the company remains as the appointed Trainer for FLA's Fundamentals of Franchise Management course.
